Rotary International: The world's first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, USA, was formed on 23 February 1905 by Paul P. Harris, an attorney who wished to recapture in a professional club the same friendly spirit he had felt in the small towns of his youth. The name "Rotary" derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among members' offices. Rotary's popularity spread throughout the United States in the decade that followed; clubs were chartered from San Francisco to New York. By 1921, Rotary clubs had been formed on six continents, and the organization adopted the name Rotary International a year later. The current status is as under:
Rotary Club of Faisalabad: In mid 1953 a few likeminded people with an intention to do some service to the needy people of Faisalabad (At that time Lyallpur) got together and decided to form a group; dedicated to service. Looking at the motto of Rotary “Service Above Self“ they formed the first Rotary Club in Faisalabad. They got the charter of Club in October 1952 under the leadership of Mian Fazal-e-Ahmad. At that time all clubs of Pakistan and India were part of District 310. There were only five clubs in Pakistan. In 1957 the first District Governor of District 310 from Pakistan was elected from Rotary Club Faisalabad. This is one of the greatest honors of our Club. With dedication and desire of service they completed many small and large size projects. Looking at the noble cause of the club many more people with similar intention joined hands and the membership increased to the level, that it became the second largest club of Pakistan. In early Eighties the membership was more than 60. During all those 50 years the club sponsored so many projects partially or fully and handed them over to the relevant organizations. |
